According to European media, King of Spain Juan Carlos I, who this year handed over the throne to his son, Felipe VI, is divorced with his wife, Queen Sofia. The monarchs lived in marriage for 52 years.
Rumors about the problems in the relationship of the crowned couple have been going on for a long time, however, as the Italian newspaper La Repubblica writes, in the near future the divorce will be officially announced. According to the publication, the abdication of Juan Carlos from the throne "accelerated the breakup, which until recently hid from the public".
The rumors are also heated by the fact that the spouses have not been seen together for a long time: their last appearance in the light was the coronation of Felipe, which was in June.
After this event, Juan Carlos and Sofia went to different places: the Queen left for the summer palace located on Mallorca, where she spent time with children and grandchildren. Her husband went about his business: in August he was present at the inauguration of President Columbia, and last week he was leaning for the Spanish national team at the World Basketball Championship in Granad.
Representatives of the Royal Palace refused to comment on the information, saying that this is a personal file of the monarchs.
Note that there were always many rumors about the relationship of Juan Carlos and Sofia – they were mainly associated with the alleged betrayal of the king. The press writes that for many years each of the spouses has been living its own life, and they are found only at official events – and even in such cases they practically do not communicate.
